Man recovering after nearly drowning at North Stradbroke

A man has been rescued after a swimming accident on North Stradbroke Island off Brisbane’s coast.Authorities say the man in his 60s was body surfing between the flags at Point Lookout late this morning when he was dumped by a wave and did not resurface.

Queensland Ambulance paramedic John Bradbury says lifeguards witnessed the incident and responded quickly.

“The lifeguards were doing an absolutely brilliant job [when] they had pulled this gentlemen from the surf [and] got him breathing again,” he said.”The local doctor was over there helping out as well so we all worked as a team.

“We got him conscious again and we were able to get him off the island on the helicopter for care over at the PA Princess Alexandra hospital.”
